The projects

Under the Degrees Modelling Fund, research grants have been awarded to 26 teams across the world since 2018. More than 150 scientists have been involved in the projects to date, exploring how SRM could affect dust storms in the Middle East, droughts in Southern Africa, the spread of cholera in South Asia, and more.

Following the 2018 call for proposals, eight teams were initially awarded modelling grants in Argentina, Bangladesh, Benin, Indonesia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, and South Africa. In June 2021, six of these teams were then awarded continuation grants to further their work until the end of 2023. In October 2021, another three teams were chosen to receive Degrees Modelling Fund grants in Kenya, Bangladesh and the Philippines. In 2023, a further 15 were awarded modelling grants, doubling our number of SRM research projects supported to date across the Global South.

In 2023, the Degrees Initiative launched its Degrees Socio-Political Fund to support Global South SRM research in the social sciences. The first supported projects will be announced in the first half of 2024.
