DMF grants have been awarded to 26 research teams across the world since 2018. More than 150 researchers have been involved in the projects to date, exploring how SRM could affect dust storms in the Middle East, droughts in Southern Africa, the spread of cholera in South Asia, and more.
Following the 2018 call for proposals, eight teams had initially been awarded in Argentina, Bangladesh, Benin, Indonesia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, and South Africa. In June 2021, six of these teams were awarded continuation grants to further their research until the end of 2023. In October 2021, another three teams were chosen to receive DMF funding in Kenya, Bangladesh and the Philippines. In 2023, a further 15 teams were awarded, doubling our number of SRM research projects funded to date across the Global South.
