
Professor Saleemul Huq, a member of Degrees board of trustees, has been appointed as one of seven external members of a new UN Scientific Advisory Board.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the creation of the board on 3 August 2023, which will advise UN leaders on how to harness the benefits and mitigate potential risks of new breakthroughs in science and technology.
Prof. Huq is Director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) in Bangladesh, as well as Chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum Expert Advisory Group, and was a lead author on the IPCC’s third, fourth and fifth annual assessment reports.
He has been a champion of the Global South in more than 20 years of UN climate talks and was noted as one of the ten most influential people working on climate change around the world.
