Public perceptions of SRM in a climate-vulnerable South Asian country

Host institution Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University
Grant year 2024

Project summary

This study seeks to identify factors affecting the public perception towards SRM in Bangladesh. By analyzing six specific climatic hotspots in Bangladesh, this study will aim to investigate the differences in perception and preferences towards different SRM techniques across a range of climatic conditions. A total of 720 respondents will be surveyed. The data will be collected from farmers, businessmen, service holders, and university level students through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). Both qualitative and quantitative approaches will be utilized. Public perceptions will be measured in two ways: first, public perceptions of the benefits and risk of SRM will be measured using the five-point Likert scale, and second, public preferences regarding different SRM techniques will be looked at. Examining the local population’s perception of different climatic conditions and comparing it to global trends can help policymakers towards evaluating suitable climate policy interventions.
