Dr Mzime Murisa

Policy Engagement Manager (Africa)

Mzime brings 20 years of experience working with academia (teaching, learning and research) and practice (regulatory, civil society and community-based organisations) across Africa. Prior to joining Degrees, Mzime was a Program Specialist at START International, an international nonprofit whose niche was the interface between science, policy and practice in the developing world. She managed the Future Resilience for African Cities and Lands (FRACTAL); Education Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC-N) in Africa and the Cascading Climate Health Risks in African Cities (CASCADE) programs. Mzime’s strategic responsibilities at Degrees include policy engagement by connecting African experts to SRM discussions and relevant forums. Also to cultivate networks among policymakers and researchers, forge partnerships to counter misinformation, and facilitate cross-regional knowledge exchange across Africa, with the goal of amplifying global south voices in international climate governance. She will also support policy strategy execution, contribute to budgeting and program alignment, and track engagement outcomes through MEL activities to refine approaches and ensure informed decision-making. Mzime studied at the University of Zimbabwe and the Western Cape (South Africa) with specialisation in Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation.
