About us

We lead the world in building the capacity of developing countries to ask – and answer – their own questions on SRM.

The Degrees Initiative is neutral about whether solar radiation modification (SRM) should ever be used, but we are supporters of research that can inform evidence-based, equitable decision making.

The Degrees Initiative has been funded by a broad range of internationally recognised and respected philanthropists and philanthropic organisations, which are dedicated to tackling the climate crisis and to capacity development in the Global South. We are transparent about all our funders.

The Degrees Initiative is currently funded by the LAD Climate Fund [Funds coming from the Schwab Charitable Fund], the Crankstart Foundation, the Navigation Fund, Coefficient Giving, Outlier Projects, Quadrature Climate Foundation and the UK’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA).

Previous funding sources: Climate Pathfinders Foundation, the InterAcademy Panel (IAP), the European Climate Foundation, Zennström Philanthropies, the Carbon War Room, the Safe Climate Research Initiative , the Fund for Innovative Climate and Energy Research (FICER), the Cohler Charitable Fund, and the Neukermans Family Fund.
