Online workshop on SRM in South Africa

15.07.2021
Online, South Africa

On Thursday 15 July 2021, SRMGI (the Degrees Initiative) in partnership with the African Climate and Development Initiative and Climate System Analysis Group at the University of Cape Town ran a two-hour long virtual workshop on SRM aimed at stakeholders from the Southern African region.

The workshop served as a platform for an introductory discussion on SRM, introducing its science and socio-political implications and featuring presentations from the University of Cape Town’s DECIMALS team members. In a second part, the presentations made way for group discussions among the participants, first in small groups, followed by a plenary session to conclude the event. The participants endeavored to review the risks and benefits of SRM and reflected on how the Southern African region may engage with the issue.
