Socio-political dimensions of climate change and SRM in the Pakistani health sector
Project summary
Vector-borne diseases such as malaria have established socio-political dimensions in the Global South (GS) under climate change (CC), but these dimensions have not been analysed for solar radiation modification (SRM). This research project seeks to: 1) develop an interface for policy makers to communicate evidence-based information on malaria under projected CC and SRM across Pakistan, as an extension of the Malaria Atlas Project; 2) identify relevant policy documents and perform a policy analysis of CC and health sectors with reference to vector-borne disease controls in Pakistan as a pilot demonstration. The aim of this is to pinpoint the areas and knowledge gaps where the impacts of SRM for health policy makers start playing a role in policy development; and 3) survey relevant governmental working organisations and think tanks in Pakistan on the above results with the aim to better understand existing favourable and unfavourable perceptions regarding CC and SRM prevailing in the national health community.
