Govindasamy Bala

Prof. G Bala is a Professor at the Center for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India. He uses Earth System Models to understand changes in climate, carbon and water cycle to external forcings such as greenhouse gases, aerosols and land cover change. Prof. Bala has served as a Lead Author in the 5th (2013) and 6th (2021) scientific assessment of climate change by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and will serve as a Review Editor in the upcoming 7th assessment. He is currently an Executive member of the Earth Commission, Future Earth which is engaged in setting the safe and just boundaries for a resilient planet. He has also served as scientific steering committee member or as advisory board member in several committees.
