Understanding Brazilian stakeholder knowledge and perspectives on SRM

Host institution Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil
Grant year 2024

Project summary

The main research question that guides this project is: how can we identify, interpret, position, and compare the perspectives of relevant actors who have a stake in experimentation, implementation and governance of SRM in Brazil? The project will begin by systematising lessons from recent experiences of international public debate. These lessons will be applied to scientific and public debates about the risks and benefits of SRM. We will then examine perceptions about the social, political, ethical, economic, and environmental impacts of SRM across a range of key stakeholders in Brazil including experts, productive sector representatives, government agents, and other sectors of public. The team will stimulate a process of discussion and seek to build capacity in Brazil to better evaluate SRM, and to participate in wider global conversation for equitable decisions and governance on this topic.
