Marcos Regis da Silva
Dr Marcos Regis da Silva joined The Degrees Initiative in November 2024 and is the Director of Policy Engagement. In this role, he engages with decision-makers to highlight the work of Degrees and introduce the challenges the Global South faces in achieving equitable research on SRM. Previously, he held the post of Executive Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI). He was responsible for providing strategic advice to high-level policymakers on global change and socio-economic impacts and developing linkages between the IAI’s scientific agenda and global governance environmental frameworks. Marcos was also a Coordinator with the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization, where he implemented a large-scale project on trade in wildlife. He also held the post of Chief of Knowledge Management and Outreach Services with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES/UNEP). Prior to CITES, he worked at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD/UNEP) and the NAFTA Commission on Environmental Cooperation. He holds a PhD from McGill University and was an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Distance Education and a Computer and Systems Librarian for many years.
