Our values

SRM is a very controversial topic. We believe that organisations working in this space should commit to high standards of integrity, transparency and good governance.

Degrees has been working for over a decade to ensure a more inclusive global conversation around SRM. We believe that such a conversation is essential if the world is to make informed and equitable decisions about SRM.
Our independent Board of Trustees includes a balance of North and South voices.
Strategic decisions are informed by expert advisors in the Global South and North.

04 Academic excellence

We aim to expand the discussion of SRM’s potential risks and benefits, taking account of science, social science and governance.
We will work to ensure that evaluation of SRM is informed by the best available evidence, and that it is analysed in the context, with impacts and implications compared both to today’s climate and to a warmed world.
Research funding decisions are made by an independent grants committee following an open call and peer review.
Research teams have full academic freedom.

Our approach

Degrees leads the world in building the capacity of developing countries to ask their own questions about SRM and do their own research, ensuring informed and confident representation in global discussions. We fund research, build communities, and run engagement workshops, creating networks of independent experts.

We run regular calls for proposals, from which we’ve now funded more than 40 projects. These teams have published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers.

We build community between our researchers with regional and global events, as well as linking them with Global North experts through our research collaborator programme.
