Dr Nilam McGrath
Nilam has worked in publishing in the international development sector for almost 30 years. She specialises in translating technical concepts into evidence-based outputs using plain English techniques. She also trains researchers in the Global South to write journal articles, briefings and lay summaries. She is an advocate of open access for non-profits and those working outside academia, particularly those based in the Global South. Before joining the Degrees Initiative, Nilam worked at UNICEF and was responsible for writing its first Open Access Policy, was the Publications Manager at the World Food Programme, responsible for embedding new commissioning and quality assurance standards and was the Senior Manager for Open Research at The Open University. At the Degrees Initiative, Nilam is responsible for supporting researchers to write academic articles and navigate the academic publishing ecosystem.
